Takhteshwar Temple is a famous temple situated in the Bhavnagar city in Gujarat. It was constructed in 1893 at the instructions of the then ruler of Bhavnagar, Maharaja Takhatsihnji. It has a magnificent shrine with a three eyed Lord Shiva who is regarded as the powerful and fascinating deity of the Hindu Trinity. The temple is constructed in white marble which showcases a rare architectural beauty. It also offers an aerial view of the city of Bhavnagar and the surrounding regions.

Plenty of devotees and tourists from various parts of Gujarat and all over the country come to visit this temple especially during the occasion of Shivaratri. During this festival, the temple is highly crowded and thousands of people climb the hills to pay tribute to Lord Shiva.

It is easy to reach the temple through several modes of transport.

By Road: Bhavnagar is well connected by road to other cities in Gujarat like Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara etc. Bus services are operated in the city by the state-owned transport corporation and private operators. Private auto rickshaws, taxis and buses are the frequent modes of transport which can also be used to reach the temple.

By Train: The city of Bhavnagar is well-connected to major cities in India by rail network. Therefore, tourists from other states can easily visit the city, including the temple.

By Air: Bhavnagar is one of the few cities in Gujarat to have a domestic airport. Many domestic flights connect it with other major cities of India, like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Srinagar, Pune, Kochi, Goa, Ludhiana and Chandigarh.

Best Time to Visit

Winters are the best season to visit the temple. The summer months between April to June and the monsoon season which ends till September should be avoided to visit this place due to unfavourable climatic conditions. October to March are the best months to visit the temple as there is an extremely pleasant weather during this period.

Major attractions

There are many places near the temple which can be visited by tourists and pilgrims. Bhav Vilas Palace, the residence of Maharaja Kumar Shivbhadrasinjhi, faces the popular Gaurishankar Lake and gives a picturesque view to the tourists. Another place to visit is the Gandhi Smriti, a historical memorial devoted to Mahatma Gandhi. Nilambag Palace is another beautiful palace near the temple which attracts many tourists every year. The numerous pillars, magnificent courtyard and stepped arches of this palace are added attractions of the temple.
