Belgaum is the fourth largest city of Karnataka, located 762 m (2,500 ft) above sea level. Rich cultural diversity can be found here because of its proximity to the states of Goa and Maharashtra. It is a happening commercial hub and an important export center, mostly related to the automobile industry. Another industry having significant presence here is Hindalco Industries, which produces aluminium. Rich uranium deposits can also be found here. Large-scale sugar factories are located here and almost 30% of the total milk production of Karnataka takes place in Belgaum.
