Surat is one of the largest and most populous cities in Gujarat. This city has achieved amazing economic growth, to the tune of 11.5% GDP growth rate. Diamond and textile are the two most important businesses here. Interestingly, more than 90% of all the diamonds in the world are cut and polished here. A large chunk of fabric is also produced here, accounting for 12% of the total production in India. With economic growth trickling down, the size of urban middle-class is also increasing. The Surat Airprt is located 11 km from the city center. Other than running scheduled flight services, this airport is also used by the Flying Training School. The new terminal building of this airport?, upgraded at a cost of Rs. 40 crore, can handle 240 passengers on an hourly basis. Some of the operational facilities available here include Instrument Landing System, night-landing facilities, NDB, and DVOR/DME. Facilities available in the airport are air bridges, Visual Docking Guiding System, escalators, elevators, seating lounge, baggage X-ray machine, eateries, duty-free shops, etc. Taxi service is available from the airport. Bus stand and railway station are located nearby.
