Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum

Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum is one of the popular tourist attractions of Vadodara. It is known for its rich collection of artifacts belonging to the 19th and the 20th centuries. The artifacts of the museum comprise masterpieces by European painters such as Titan, Murillo and Raphael. Besides the European paintings, the museum also possesses many Western and Indian miniature paintings, Japanese and Chinese art and Greco-Roman exhibits. The museum was decorated by Fellicci, an Italian artist. Fellici is said to have decorated the museum, as well as the Lakshmi Vilas Palace and Sayaji Garden, by his fine works.

Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum at Vadodara is located inside Lakshmi Vilas Palace. The museum building had once been a school. The school was constructed by Maharaja Sir Sayajiroa Gaekwad III to educate his children. Presently, the museum holds many art works and belongings of the royal family of Vadodara. Maharaja Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad III is said to have brought the art works during his visit to the foreign countries.

Among the paintings housed in Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum, the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma deserve special mention. Besides, the museum also contain the portraits of the royal families. The paintings of Hindu mythological figures are also found in the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum of Vadodara. Furthermore, the museum possesses many beautiful sculptures made of bronze and marble. The sculptures comprise the replicas of various art works by renowned artists. Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum in Vadodara also house many original sculptures of many famous artists.
