Chennai is home to a number of amusement parks,and the VGP Universal Kingdom is one of the most popular and fun-filled amusement parks one will ever see. It was founded by V G Pannnerdas and V G Ravidas. Initially starting out with smaller rides, they have currently expanded to a mammoth dimension and presently can be termed as a full-fledged modern-day amusement park. In 1997, the park took its current shape and included a number of new adventures and fun rides for the enthusiastic visitors. The newest addition to the VGP World is the Aqua Kingdom which is a water park with a number of water rides and amusement facilities.
Facilities and Attractions at VGP Universal Kingdom
Situated along the east coast of Chennai, the VGP Universal Kingdom is a place to enjoy and let go of your daily stresses in an instant. It has innumerable rides for children as well as grown-ups, offering fun for the entire family. The rides for children include Baby Train, Water Duck, Aladdin, Trampoline, Helicopter, Revolving Cups and many more while Grown-ups can enjoy the Chair-o-Plane, Rodeo Ball, Hydro Bike, Go-Karting, Water Chute, Dashing cars and many other rides to choose from. For the family to have a blast together, rides such as Ferris Wheel, Jungle car, Roller coaster and Balloon racer are present. Apart from this, other attractions like the 2000 millennium tower, Paneer Fort, water cascades, Jurassic park, the aquarium, cool zone, statue man are also not to be missed.
The food court is present alongside the golden beach which is further along the east coast side opening into the blue waters of the Bay of Bengal at the end of the amusement park. The VGP Universal Kingdom has played host to more than 5000 TV serials and films as a location for shooting. The shooting has been done by film industries from all over India such as Bollywood, Tollywood and Kollywood. There are a number of special features when it comes to the water park. It has the biggest wave pool with a capacity to hold 1,500 people at a time. It has a facility to create artificial waves that create an in-the-sea feel. The Lazy River is 250 m long ride and which brings the experience of travelling with a tube. A 60-m long cave is also part of the river. 30-feet high funnel-shaped water slides and five more slides at different heights are also present.
The tickets are available in the range of Rs 350-550 for both adults and children. The ticket is bought at the entry gate and the rides are covered entirely by the ticket. There are a number of restaurants in the place that offer good quality food that includes several cusines such as Mughlai, Chinese, Italian, South Indian and Continental. One dish that is popular here is the Family Roast which is so immense that it takes an entire family to consume. It is served for four people or more.
Location
The VGP Universal Kingdom is situated in the East Coast Road on the way to Mahabalipuram. Aavadi, Saidapet, Anna Nagar and Cit Nagar West are the areas close to this amusement park. It is also near to its rival amusement park named MGM Dizzee World. The undulating shoreline and shimmering white sand along the coast adds to its location value and grandeur.
Timing
The VGP Universal Kingdom is open every day throughout the year. It is open from 10.00 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. during the weekdays from Monday to Friday. During Saturdays and Sundays it is open from 10.00 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. On public holidays it is open from 10.00 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. The same timing is followed during the “in-season” period which is generally in the months of April to May and also during December and January.
How to Reach
The roads in Chennai are well laid and interconnected by good transport facilities in and around the city. The Saidapet Railway Station is located close to the VGP Universal Kingdom. Buses and Taxis can be availed to get to the spot of the amusement park. A good number of buses go past the amusement part originating from central Chennai.
