Being one of the most well known hill resorts in India, Kodaikanal is situated on the southern pinnacle of the upper Palani Hills near Madurai in TamilNadu. Surrounded with rocks, woods, serene lakes and soothing air to embrace, Kodaikanal is the desired destination for tourists across the globe. At an altitude of about 2,133 mts, this tourist spot is spread across an area of 21.45-sq-km. Hill-plantain fruits and plums are best to be tasted here.

One shall never experience extremes of climate in Kodaikanal. During January, however, the night temperatures drop down to freezing, even ice is seen on the edges of the lakes. During summer (from March to May), the temperature stays between 20°C to 11°C, while in winters (from December to February) the temperature ranges between 17.3°C to 8.3°C. Monsoon could, however, be seen during the months of June to September.

How to Reach Kodaikanal

Kodaikanal is a beautiful hill resort in TamilNadu. It is easy to reach Kodaikanal as it is well connected by air, rail and road.

By Air

The nearest airport to Kodaikanal is Madurai airport which is at a distance of 120 km from the city. Madurai is well-connected to Chennai and Coimbatore.

By Rail

The nearest Railway stations are Palani Railway Station (64 kilometres or 40 miles) north, Kodai Road Station (80 kilometres or 50 miles) south east and Dindigul Railway Junction (100 kilometres or 62 miles) east.

One can get down at the Dindigul Railway station, and take an autorickshaw for Dindigul bus station from where straight buses are available to Kodaikanal.

By Road

Kodaikanal is connected by road with Chennai (520km), Ooty (264km), Trichy (197km), Coimbatore (175km), Kumili (160km), and Madurai (120km). There are regular bus services from Madurai, Palani, Kodaikanal Road, Theni, Dindigul, Tiruchirapalli, Kumuli (Thekkady) and Coimbatore. For local transport, taxis and luxury buses are available for local transportation. There are no auto-rickshaws in Kodaikanal.

Shopping in Kodaikanal

Kodaikanal is a hill resort famous for its mesmerizing beauty. Although not particularly a shopping destination, you can buy some souvenirs and curios from this hill resort.
