Dimapur is a beautiful place in the state of Nagaland. It has a rich history, which today can be seen in the Kachari Rajbari Fort ruins, baths, embankments, and temples. It was the erstwhile capital of the Kachari Tribe. In Kachari dialect, Dimapur means �City Near the Great River�. Tourism is the main economic driver. Dimapur Airport was built during World War II, and is the only airport in the northeast. The total capacity of the terminal building is 800 passengers: 300 arriving and 500 departing. A wide range of facilities is provided by the airport authority, including eateries, stationery and magazine shops, cafes, bakery, snacks, duty-free shopping, and many more. Enough transport is available from the airport. Private cars, taxis and buses can be availed easily. The bus station and railway station are located 8 km and 7.4 km from Dimapur Airport, respectively.
