Kanyakumari to Nagercoil



Roadways from Kanyakumari to Nagercoil are well developed, as Nagercoil is the administrative center of the entire Kanyakumari district. The town of Nagercoil lies some 19 to 20 kilometers from the Kanyakumari town. The place is known for its Nagaraja temple and derives its name from the same. The Nagercoil city is located in the southern part of Tamilnadu. This city was previously a part of Kerala but after the revision of borders, it was included in Tamil Nadu .

The Nagercoil houses a railway line. Regular trains are available fro Nagercoil, which ferry passengers from Nagercoil to Kanyakumari and from Kanyakumari to Nagercoil. Bus services from Nagercoil to Kanyakumari and in the vice versa route are very comfortable and they are available several times in a day. This apart, tourists can also avail the local car rental services.

The Nagaraja Temple of Nagercoil



The Nagaraja temple is beautifully sculpted and decorated with idols of Nagaraja, Lord Shiva. The peculiar feature of the temple is that it shows a strange mixture of Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. There are images of Mahavira, the Tirthankaras as well as Parawanathar. On the other hand, the style of building the temple somewhat resembles Chinese style of building the Viharas of for the Buddhist monks.

The Suchindram temple is located some 7 kilometers from Nagercoil and is on the way from Kanyakumari to Nagercoil. This temple is devoted for the worship of Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. The sculpture of this temple is outstanding and many interesting legends are associated with the origin of the temple.
