Janamashtmi also known as Krishnashtami and special celebration takes place at midnight, i.e., when Lord Krishna was born and for those who are fasting, that would be the time to offer aarti and break the fast with some delicious food.
Lord Krishna had fondness for items prepared with milk like ghee, makhan and kheer, so let us also feast up on some Kheer Poori today. Kheer Poori is served in many Krishna temples in India and around the world. Extend your love for the deity with this simple recipe and enjoy your festival.
Ingredients needed for Kheer Poori
For Kheer
- Full cream milk – 1 lt
- Rice – 1/4 cup
- Cardamom – 3/4 (crushed)
- Sugar – 1/2 cup
- Dry fruits to garnish
For Poori:
- Wheat flour – 1 cup
- Oil – 1 tsp and for frying
How to make Kheer Poori
For Kheer:
- Bring milk to a boil, add rice and cardamom.
- Simmer the heat and cook till it thickens. Keep stirring in between.
- Add sugar and cook for five minutes.
- Garnish with dry fruits.
For Poori:
- Add 1 tsp oil in the wheat flour and mix with your finger tips.
- Knead a tight dough with water.
- Make small balls and roll them to make thin pooris.
- Heat oil in a pan, when the oil is hot, deep fry the pooris from both sides till golden brown.
- Remove on a kitchen towel lined plate.
- Serve Kheer Poori.
