A much awaited event in US with PM Modi, President Trump and NRIs called Howdy Modi
The word ‘Howdy’ in ‘Howdy Modi’ means “How do you do?” It is a commonly used word for informal greeting in Texas and other southwestern states of the US. Somewhat shortened version of ‘How do you do’. In this case particularly, Howdy Modi synced perfectly together in a rhyming fashion.
‘Howdy Modi’ has gained importance as it was one of the largest events to welcome a foreign head of government in the history of the United States of America. So much so that even the US President Donald Trump airdashed from the charming environs of White House all the way to Houston to join Modi on stage, on a Sunday! Both the leaders are having mass appeal in their respective countries. It was the first time when the heads of the two largest democracies in the world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, jointly addressed a much anticipated and talked about gathering.
More than 50,000 Indian-Americans attended the event in Houston, Texas on Sunday, including more than 60 prominent US lawmakers as well.
The event was Modi’s third major address to the Indian-American community after he became the prime minister in 2014, and the first after his re-election in May 2019. The previous two big hit events were held at the Madison Square Garden in New York in 2014 and the Silicon Valley in 2016.
Even though the weather was expected to be unpredictable with fear of torrential rains that prompted the governor to declare a state of emergency in several parts of Texas, volunteers of “Howdy Modi” were working round the clock to make the event a grand success. In the end, the occasion, and Modi, did not disappoint. Overall, it turned out to be a greatly watched event in the US, India and many other parts of the world.
