What are the qualities that you think a good politician must have? All, except that they should not lust for money and power; rather they should be sharp and not cheat the public. And they should think about the development of the country and come out of their stereotyped image.
India is definitely witnessing a change in the game of politics. New political parties want to do it quickly and experienced ones take longer time to act on anything. But one thing that has not changed in politics is the blame game. What one party does, is condemned by the other party. Regular clashes and critical remarks on one another are all common to watch on television. But amid all this hullaballoo, India needs good politicians. Corruption is a major setback to our political system. With time, everyone has learned how to make huge amount of money. Some even argue that the youth can bring the desired change in our society. Leading political parties are now taking the youth along with them. Now, who knows if their interest is in the development of youth or vote bank as every third person in India is youth. Youth can certainly bring change because of fresh ideas but with them comes the energy, and if this energy is uncontrolled it can do more harm than good. To balance that energy, there must be some experienced politicians in the squad. The current state of politics in India has forced us to think that politicians take bribe and they are not interested in the development of the country.
Subhash Chandra Bose, a very intellectual person perceived as the “George Washington of India”, was among the great leaders of India. He was a fighter. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, another great leader of India, was a very able Prime Minister of India. His government launched many successful projects such as the National Highway Development Project, the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman etc. Along with this, foreign investment was greatly encouraged by his government. Lal Bahadur Shastri was a selfless leader and a follower of non-violence. He was appointed as the Railway Minister and did his best to remove the gap between the first and third class compartments. Later on, the first class which used to offer royal comfort was abolished and second class was made first. After the death of Jawaharlal Nehru, he was appointed as the Prime Minister of India. He solved many problems related to unemployment, poverty and food shortage. Dr B.R. Ambedkar was also a great leader and one of the best politicians of India. His work for the welfare of the depressed classes is still unmatched. There was no selfish gain or motive behind all this. He did it becuse he believed in it. India really needs great leaders like them today. Narendra Modi – presently a Chief Minister of Gujarat and a prime ministerial candidate of BJP for Lok Sabha elections 2014, is a top politician of India well-known for his work in the state of Gujarat. He is a great orator and is considered as a powerful politician of India today.
During the course of time, India has seen many top politicians who were not selfish, who were visionary, who worked for India without any greed for power and because of their hard work India witnessed the development that we get to see today. But the path is not smooth. At present, our nation is desperately waiting for a visionary and a leader with great execution abilities.
