Indira Park: A Beautiful Picnic Spot in Hyderabad

Location: Dumalguda, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh

Just as the name suggests, Indira Park is a recreation park dedicated to the late Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. Located in the heart of the city, it lies alongside the Husain Sagar Lake of Hyderabad. The foundation of the Indira park was laid in the year 1975 by the then President of India, Late Faqruddin Ahmed, but it was opened to public in the year 1978. It is also one of the oldest parks in Hyderabad.

Sprawling across 76 acres in area, Indira Park is among the most crowded places of Hyderabad. The uniqueness of the park lies in its special design of construction which does not disturb the already present natural components like the sandalwood trees, date palms, fruit trees and the Keuvda plantation. The park also houses special attractions such as a rose garden, a skating area, a pond and several waterfalls and musical fountains. Visitors can also enjoy the boating facilities made available here.

The park has been one of the favorite picnic spots for the children as well as the families. With the provision of a number of food stalls and stores here, you don’t even need to worry when hunger strikes. Apart from the tourists, the park is occupied by the locals who come here for jogging. Currently the park is being modified to make it even more useful and attractive for the visitors. Amidst the hustle-bustle of the rapidly growing city, Indira Park is really a peaceful breathing space in Hyderabad.
