Six killed, 100 wounded; army called out in riot-hit Gujarat (Roundup)
10:30 pm, 26 August, 2015 - Six people were killed, and over 100 injured as a statewide shutdown in Gujarat called by the Patidar Arakshan Andolan Samiti turned violent on Wednesday, officials said. Riots, arson, stone-pelting and widespread damage to public and private property forced the authorities to call the army and paramilitary forces.

Two Passenger Trains Derail in Madhya Pradesh, 27 Feared Dead
7:00 AM IST, 5 August, 2015 - At least 27 people died and 40 were injured as two passenger trains derailed within minutes of each other while crossing a bridge in Madhya Pradesh. The derailed trains were Kamayani Express running from Mumbai to Varanasi and Janata Express running from Mumbai to Jabalapur. According to a railway spokesperson, the track caved in due to rain and waterlogging which lead to derailment.

A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who rose from humble beginnings to become one of India's leading scientists and later a hugely popular president, died here on Monday evening after collapsing during a lecture at the IIM-Shillong, plunging the entire country in mourning.

Landslides Kill 30 in Darjeeling
The landslides triggered by heavy rains claimed 30 lives in Darjeeling district of West Bengal. Major landslides occurred in the district on Tuesday night due to incessant rains. According to media reports, many houses were swept away by the landslides killing many people. Dead bodies have been recovered from areas such as Mirik, Kalimpong, Limbudhura and Sukhiapokhari. Reportedly many roads in the district have also been damaged due to the sudden landslides.

At Least 17 Killed in Tractor-Truck Collision in Etah
In a collision between a truck and a tractor, about 17 people including five children have been killed in Etah district of Uttar Pradesh. As per the police officials of the region, the accident took place around 10.45 pm near the Harchandpur village. According to police officials, 15 had died on the spot while the other two took their last breathes at a hospital.
