Tamilnadu, a state in Southern India is a land with a rich Dravidian culture. Many great rulers including the Cholas, Pallavas, Pandyas and the Vijayanagara Empire ruled over parts of Tamil Nadu.

The state is also known for its cultural heritage and temple architecture . It also houses many hotels to cater its booming travel and tourism industry. The most popular cities in Tamilnadu are Chennai, Madurai, Kodaikanal, Kanyakumari, Kanchipuram, Rameshwaram, Sivkasi, Mahabalipuram and Tanjore. Chennai , formerly called Madras, is capital of Tamilnadu and also India's fourth largest metropolitian.



Popular attractions in Chennai include Fort St. George , the 12 kms long Marina Beach , which is one of the longest beaches in the world and the memorials of Dravidian leaders Annadurai and M.G. Ramachandran.

Madurai is famous for the Meenakshi Sundareshwar Temple whereas Rameshwaram is a well-known pilgrimage in India and is known for its Ramanathaswamy Temple and Kothanda Ramaswamy temple.Kanchipuram also called "City of 1000 Temples" and the beautiful hill station Kodaikanal are also located here. The southernmost point of the Indian peninsula is also in Tamil Nadu.

The waters of three different water bodies- the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, mingle at Kanyakumari.The famous tourist spots in Tamilnadu include Anamalai, Auroville, Chidambaram, Coimbatore, Coonoor, Covelong, Gingee, Hogenakal, Padmanabham, Cholamandal, Pulicat, Suchindaram, Point Calimere,Kotagiri,Thiruvanmiyur, Mudumalai, Mandanthurai Tiger Sanctuary, Tiruchchirappalli, Srirangam and Ooty.
