Kerala Government Department And Institutions

The government structure in India, both on the state and central levels, is divided into 3 branches viz. legislative, executive and judiciary.

The executive or the administrative powers in the state of Kerala are vested in the Chief Minister and his ministers. Each of these ministers has a ministry and a number of relevant departments functioning under him. The Secretariat is the hub of the administrative functioning of the Government and is the structure made up of these departments.

Politically, the leadership lies with the ministers of the ruling party/alliance. However, the actual administrative functions are carried out by the secretaries of the government.

Besides these departments, Government Institutions such as Commissions, Public Sector undertakings, Autonomous Bodies, Welfare Fund Boards, Cultural Institutions, Co-operative Organizations, Development Authorities and Universities are the various loci through which the government carries out its administrative functioning in the state.
