Salem, the 5th biggest city in the state of Tamil Nadu, is located at the base of the Yercaud Hills. Famous for delicious mangoes, this south Indian city is bounded by hills of Nagaramalai towards its north, Kanjamalai towards its west, Jarugumalai towards its south and Godumalai towards its east.

Apart from a known tourist spot, this place is heaven to the geologists for the range of hillocks present there. This city is even considered to be among the world's chief textile weaving centres.

  • Alagirnathar Thirukoil- Popularly called "Kottai Perumal Koil" this temple dating back to centuries has got many beautiful sculptures and is known for being the location of a famous festival called "Vaikunta Ekadasi".
  • Anna Park (Four roads location)- This park is one of the entertainment centres and is quite popular among children.

  • Tharamangalam Kailasanathar Temple- This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and a part of this is said to be existent since the 10th Century.
  • Salem Gugai Mariamman and Kaliamman Temple- This Salem temple is famous for housing the "Vandi Vedikkai" function.
  • Servarayan Temple- This temple is situated on the highest point of the Yercaud Hills.
  • Yercaud Hill- Located on the Eastern Ghats this hill station is situated at 1515 m high altitude and is famous for orange groves and coffee plantations.
