Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Lakshadweep, a part of the distinguished Jawahar Navodaya chain of schools opened doors on 5th October 1988 to facilitate academic growth in the picturesque archipelago that constitutes the Lakshadweep islands.

In accordance with the provisions and the amendments of the government of India's New Education Policy (NEP) in the year 1986, the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya was established as a quality co-educational residential school for bright young students of classes VI to XII.Lakshadweep islands, being an isolated group of emerald green islets and atolls dotting the Arabian Sea did not achieve monumental growth or progress. Kendriya Vidyalaya

The emerald green Lakshadweep Islands floating amidst the sparkling, voluminous seawater certainly presents a sight to behold. Education in the picturesque isles progresses with the establishment of the Kendriya Vidyalaya, Lakshadweep, a center of academic excellence.

The Kendriya Vidyalaya chain of academic institutes opened doors in November 1962 at the Government of India's initiative to foster education for the wards of all Central Government employees, Defence workforce as well as those with transferable government jobs. Thus 20 excellent army schools were elevated to the status of Central schools. A couple of years down the line, in December 1965, an independent council, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan was established in accordance with the provisions of the Societies Registration Act, 1960.

Currently, there are 931 Kendriay Vidyalaya schools all across the country and three abroad that are the proud owner of an excellent academic infrastructure. The total faculty strength of all the institutes put together exceeds 37,904 professionally qualified staff. The Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kavaratti is housed at the capital of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. Minicoy High School

India's attainment of the much-desired freedom from the hands of the British followed by the States Reorganization Act, 1956 changed the fate of the picturesque islands. The establishment of good schools like the Minicoy High School, Lakshadweep, promoted academic progress in the union territory.

Education in the Minicoy Island commenced with the establishment of a solitary school in the year 1947 whose staff comprised of a lone teacher. Eventually, in between 1962-1963, the school was elevated to the status of a Senior Basic School, which was subsequently followed by the distinction of a premier High School. Ironically, Minicoy Island is today the focal point of Lakshadweep's academics. The island is currently the proud owner of a Senior Secondary School, Senior Basic School, a Nursery School and a Junior Basic School with total faculty strength of 130. 2500 students regularly attend these schools.

The pedagogical instructions in the Minicoy High Schools are imparted either in English or in Kerala or Malayalam. The premier Lakshadweep school also focuses heavily on the overall development of the students. Hence it is mandatory for the students to participate in either sports or the National Cadet Corps (NCC) or the Marine Science and Coir Craft student clubs, Science Club, Arts and literary association or other House activities. Regular parent teacher meetings are organized to monitor the student's continual academic progress.
