The power network in Orissa or renewable energy is managed by the Orissa Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA). This body was established in 1984 under the guidance of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Orissa. It was constituted as a State Nodal agency with the prime objective of popularizing the use of renewable energy resources in the Orissa.

In an attempt to promote the renewable power network in Orissa the Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) is planning to promote wind thermal and solar energy by setting up new plants in association with the respective independent entrepreneurs, NTPC and other government bodies. The OREDA has so far identified over 300 acres of wasteland in Bolangir for its 3 major solar power plants.

Talcher Super Thermal Power Station



The Talcher Super Thermal Power Station is a part of the National Thermal Power Corporation's in India. Situated near Talcher in the district of Angul in Odisha this thermal power plant is the country's second largest power-generating station in India, with an installed capacity of 3000 MW.

Captive Power Plant



Initiated by the Ferro Alloys Corporation Limited, one of India's largest producers and exporters of Ferro alloys the Captive Power Plant is a coal based captive power plant set up near Randia in Orissa. Set up to serve the purpose for the company's personal consumption this power plant in Orissa has 2 operating units with a total installed capacity of 420 MW.

Jharsuguda Power Plant



An independent power plant set up by the prestigious Vedanta Group was se up in Jharsuguda in Orissa. It is a single power plant of 2400 MW that has the capacity to fulfill the power needs of almost the entire state.
