An Indian lefty medium pacer during the early 80s, Karsan Devji Ghavri was born on 28 February 1951. He played in 39 Tests and 19 ODIs from 1974 to 1981. He also showcased his cricketing skills in the 1975 and 1979 World Cup Tournaments. With a long run-up and a high leaping action, Ghavri was able to create a unique niche in the world of cricket only during the season of 1976-77 in a series against England and New Zealand. One of the most successful series of his cricket career came against the West Indies in 1978-79 with 27 wickets.
Karsan Devji Ghavri had his memorable spell during India’s tour of Australia in the year 1981 during second innings of the 3rd Test match of the series. Serving as Kapil Dev’s bowling partner, Ghavri made his debut in 1978 against Pakistan at a cricket series held in Faisalabad. Although Ghavri was eventually replaced by Madan Lal during the 1982 tour of England to India, his contribution to the Indian cricket team remains commendable.
