3 March 1993: Sharad Pawar was nominated the Chief Minister of Maharashtra

Sharad Pawar hails from the town of Baramati in Pune district of Maharashtra and is a member of the Rajya Sabha where he leads the NCP delegation. It was in June 1997 that Pawar unsuccessfully challenged Sitaram Kesri for the post of President of the Indian National Congress. He also served as Leader of Opposition in the 12th Lok Sabha. Later, in 2012, Pawar gave up the chairmanship of the Empowered Group of Ministers investigating the 2G spectrum scam. He has also served as the head of various sports organisations like Maharashtra Wrestling Association, Mumbai Cricket Association, Maharashtra Olympics Association, Maharashtra Kho Kho Association, Maharashtra Kabbadi Association and many more.

Born on 12 December 1940, Sharad Govindrao Pawar is an Indian politician who serves as the president of the Nationalist Congress Party which he founded in 1999, after separating from the Indian National Congress. He has already served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on three separate occasions and held the posts of Minister of Defence and Minister of Agriculture in the Government of India. Pawar was sworn in as the Maharashtra Chief Minister for his fourth and most controversial term on 3 March 1993.
