Founded by Romulus Whitaker, a herpetologist in 1976. Crocodile Bank in Chennai is spread over 3.2 hectares of lush vegetation. The Crocodile Bank of Chennai is the largest crocodile-breeding site in the country.

The Crocodile Bank of Chennai was established with an objective of spreading the awareness of the ecological role played by crocodiles in selectively feeding on sick, weak and injured fish. Such projects are conducted on biology and study of crocodiles, turtles and lizards.

If you visit the Crocodile Park in Chennai, you can see various species of alligator and crocodile slugging about in the open pools of the Chennai Crocodile Bank. Now Crocodile Bank is the habitation of nearly 7000 species of crocodiles. They are categorized into the following:
