Adyar has some good shopping places. Adyar is an important locality in the southern part of Chennai. Situated along the banks of the river Adyar, this place is supposed to be an important center in the famous metropolitan city of India. The region of Adyar is distinguished by a commercial hub, river, forests and several attractions.

The township proper, which is separated from the northern districts by the Adyar river, is located close to the popular Elliot's Beach on the east. The Buckhingham Canal, emerging from the Adyar river passes through the Adyar mainlands. In general, this region is an interesting study in diversity.

The area of Adyar is linked to other suburban areas of the city of Chennai by the Sardar Patel Road and Dr. Muthulakshmi Road. Adyar is located some 9 kilometers from the locality of George town, which has usually been taken as the central point of the capital city.

One can reach Adyar with the help of :

• Guindy Railway station which is situated towards the west and happens to be the nearest railway station.
• Chennai Airport located somewhat further west and about 5 kilometers from Adyar.
