Terror Attack in Assam's Kokrajhar

Terrorists open fire in Assam’s Kokrajhar, 14 reported killed

Around fourteen civilians have been reported killed in a day-time terror attack at a weekly market at Balajan Tinali, in north-eastern state Assam’s Kokrajhar on August 5, 2016, in what could be the first of its kind incident of firing on people at a public place.


With a total of 29 casualties, fifteen civilians are reported wounded and injured in the incident.

In a retaliation that lasted for over 15 minutes and left the attacker dead, an AK-47 has been recovered. Aside from the modern artillery, the terrorist additionally hurled a grenade destructing completely three local shops in the area.

With the Independence Day just round the corner, the militancy-inflicted state was on a high-alert. The army is said to be searching for the remaining terrorists, following reports that the incident could not have been possible without the involvement of a couple of more aides. It is said that the attack was carried out by the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit).

Assam chief minister Sarabananda Sonowal has spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the incident.
