Sikkim , in North Eastern India, is located in the Himalayan Mountains. Geographically diverse, Sikkim is home to Kanchenjunga, the world's third highest peak. Sikkim is a popular tourist destination and has an open land border with China. Gangtok is Sikkim's capital and largest city. The economy of Sikkim is largely dependent on agriculture and tourism. The population of Sikkim is 607,688 (2011 census) and the state covers an area of 7,096 km sq.

Districts and Administration in Sikkim: Sikkim is divided into four districts and has eight towns and nine sub divisions. Each district is governed by a Central Government appointed District Collector, who is in charge of administration in civilian areas in the district. Since Sikkim falls in a sensitive border area, large areas of the state are under the Indian Army. Many areas of the state are also restricted and permits are required to visit them.

Tourism in Sikkim: Nestled in the Himalayan Mountains, Sikkim is blessed with snow capped mountains and lush green valleys and has many places of interest for tourists. A few popular places of interest in Sikkim are; Rumtek Monastery, Baba Mandir, Nathu La Pass, Gurudingmar Lake and Dzongri Trek among others.
