Overall Review
Build and Design
It is one of the best looking phones ever developed by Micromax. Available in different colours, the phone comes with a curvy design and has a metal frame. The façade of the phone is fitted with a 4.7-inch display along with a layer of Gorilla Glass 3 Protection. There are three touch buttons below the display. The back side of the device has rear snapper with a ring flanked by dual LED flash. The selfie is imprinted at the lower end with the speakers.
Features
The Micromax Canvas Selfie is a dual SIM device with a single tray. It has slots for micro SIM and nano SIM. The nano SIM slot also transforms into SD card slot, which means to use two SIMs you will have to let go expandable memory slot. Only one SIM can be used at a time. This can be a major drawback for the device.
Software
The device runs Android KitKat OS, which is upgradable to Lollipop. The Micromax Canvas Selfie is loaded with apps; however it doesn’t come with an app drawer. These apps are scattered across four panes. You can also uninstall most of the third-party apps. However, you will also find Micromax’s apps like M!Live and M!Games.
Display
The display isn’t much impressing or the best in the market because most of the devices under Rs. 10,000 come with a 5-inch display. However, zooming in and out is quick, even while travelling. The viewing angles are good and the display won’t disappoint you even when navigating or reading in bright sunlight.
Camera
The Selfie is aimed at selfie lovers and comes equipped with a 13MP front-facing shooter (Sony sensor) with LED flash. The face tracking works just fine and Micromax has also added some face-enhancing tools that are seen right on the camera user interface. There are some beautifying options before you click. It allows skin smoothening, whitening, teeth whitening, reduction of dark circles and so on. In bright light, the device is capable of taking good images. Indoor images taken using the flash are also quite good.
Battery
The battery shouldn’t be a problem if you are an average user indulging in a healthy mix of instant messaging, browsing, music and photos.
Price in India
If your primary reason for buying a mobile phone is trendy looks and taking selfies, then this one is a good option. The Selfie is undoubtedly a stylish device. In India, the phone costs Rs 15,999. However, those looking for an overall powerful performer with a larger and better display along with a decent front camera will surely look for other options.
