Kamaraj Memorial House, Chennai

The Kamaraj Memorial House of Chennai was constructed to commemorate the late great Chief Minister who reigned in Tamil Nadu, Shri Kamaraj. He is indeed an epitome of honesty and prosperity. The way in which he fought with poverty and struggled to make his mark in life is truly inspiring. He had such an everlasting and mesmerizing effect on the people that he was elected thrice to the post of Chief Minister. The Kamaraj Memorial House of Chennai was opened to the people on 15th July, 1978 with an inaugural address by MG Ramachandran who was the Chief Minister at that time.

On the ground floor of Kamaraj Memorial House of Chennai lies the bedroom of this great thinker. The simple furniture and the calm and serene atmosphere of the room clearly indicates that Shri Kamaraj was an extremely down-to-earth kind of a person.

The library of this great human being contained books like '100 Modern Lives', 'Lok Sabha Debates', 'Churchill', 'Zhivago' and books on many more intriguing topics.

  • The walls of the dining hall of the Kamaraj Memorial House in Chennai is decorated by snaps of Shri Kamaraj.

  • Other photos include Shri Kamaraj sharing the screen with great leaders like Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. S Radhakrishnan, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Martin King Luther, Queen Elizabeth and others.

  • Amongst his personal antiques are pens, a spool tape recorder, spectacles, the coat worn by him while serving his term in prison in 1942 and others.
