Maharashtra being the third largest state in India, houses an extensive railway network. A Maharashtra Rail Network Map helps you understand this huge rail network criss crossing the state.

Utility of a Maharashtra Rail Network Map

Indian Railways covers majority of the areas in the state and serves to be one of the widely chosen transportation modes by passengers commuting long distance. The Central and Western Railways link nearly the whole state of Maharashtra to the rest of the country.

Central Railway Terminus, CST with its head office located in Mumbai, connects Maharashtra to eastern, central and southern regions; while Mumbai Central Western Terminus Churchgate, receives trains from the north.

The Central Railway zone which is the largest was formed by clubbing railways from other princely states - Scindia State Railway (Gwalior), Great Indian Peninsula Railway, Wardha Coal State Railway, Dholpur Railways and Nizam State Railways.

The Marathwada region (Nanded) of Maharashtra is served by South Central Railway.

The Konkan Railway serves the majority of the shoreline areas towards the south of Mumbai.

Sub-urban Railway network, the lifeline of Maharashtra serves 6.4 million passengers each day.

A lavish sightseeing train, Deccan Odyssey, with five star amenities is a spectacle of Indian railways and begins from Mumbai.
