Digital India Internship Scheme has been launched by the Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on May 9 in New Delhi. The Government of India aims to give adequate exposure to the students about the technology policy and decision-making of government of India.
About Digital India Internship Scheme
Digital India Internship Scheme will give the students an opportunity to gain initial and practical work experience under the guidance of skilled and experienced mentors. This internship will help the students to know more about the working of the “Digital India” initiative which has transformed India massively. It will give students a chance to make practical use of their knowledge acquired in classrooms in the matters relating to e-governance, the IT-ITeS industry, development of e-skills, innovation infrastructure in technology, and cyberspace.
Eligibility of the interns
- Students with minimum 60% marks in the last degree or certificate examination
- Students pursuing B.E./ B.tech (second/ third year) or integrated degree course/ dual degree (B.E/ B. Tech, M.E./ M. Tech) can apply for this internship
Having the minimum qualifications as above will not guarantee the internship in this Ministry. The preference shall be given to those candidates who have exposure in the area of an intended internship with good academic background and having a higher qualification.
Proposed Areas of Internship
The proposed areas of internships are R&D, Cyber Laws & Cyber Security, e-Governance, Digital Literacy (HRD), International Cooperation & Industrial Promotion, Hardware Industry and Digital Payments and Electronic Testing.
Duration of this Internship
It is a two-month internship that will be offered two times in a year. The internship will be conducted in the months of May and June in summers and December and January in winters. It can be extended up to three months depending on the-
- Performance of the candidates
- The requirement of the ministry
- The willingness of the candidate to spend more time with the ministry

- Application for this internship can only be made through the online mode.
- Interested and eligible candidates should visit www.meity.gov.in and click on Digital India Internship Scheme
- Click on “Apply for Internship”
- On the top left, click on “Register yourself”
- After successful registration, login and click on ‘Apply for Service’ in the same menu. The form will need to be sponsored/forwarded by the applicant’s institution.
The submission of applications for this internship is from 9th May to 23rd May 2018.
Selection
The candidates for this internship will be shortlisted on the basis of the personal or Skype Interview. The respective organizations/Groups/Divisions will select the candidates for their concerned domain. Nothing shall be paid to the candidates for attending the personal interview. The list of the selected candidates will be displayed on the web portal on June 1.
Placement
Every selected intern or interns shall have a Scientific/Technical Project Supervisor/Mentor from the Ministry. The internship is neither an employment nor an assurance of any employment with the Ministry.
Report Submission
The interns are required to submit a report on their work undertaken along with the “No–Demand Certificate” at the end of their internship to the Ministry.
Remuneration
A remuneration of Rs.10,000/- per month would be paid to an Intern, subject to satisfactory performance, duly certified by his Supervisor/Mentor. The remuneration shall be paid after the completion of internship on submission of the report duly accepted by this Ministry.
Certificate Of Internship
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology will issue certificates to the interns on the successful completion of the internship and submission of the report duly countersigned and accepted by the Competent Authority.
