Western Command

Headquarters: Chandimandir, Chandigarh

The Western Command of the Indian Army was put in charge on 26 October 1947 and has been active since then. Following the accession of Jammu and Kashmir, the Western Command was assigned for taking the responsibility of all Indian Army Operations for seizing the area. The current Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Command is Lieutenant General Surinder Singh.

Subordinate units of the Western Command are

  • 40th Artillery Division – Ambala
  • II Corps, – Ambala
  • IX Corps, – Yol
  • XI Corps, headquartered at Jalandhar
