Bandipur National Park



An famous national park located in the southern state of Karnataka, Bandipur National Park was established in the year 1974. The famous Bandipur National Park is a part of India's biggest biosphere reserve popularly known as Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Apart from Bandipur National Park; Nagarhole National Park, Mudumalai National Park, and Wayanad National Park constitute the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Beautiful mountainous range of Western Ghats surround Bandipur National Park.

Location



The famous Bandipur National Park is located in Gundlupet taluq of Chamarajnagar district. It is some 80 kilometers away from the city of Mysore. It is located on the Mysore- Ooty Highway in Karnataka.

Famous for What type of animal



Bandipur National Park is famous all across the globe for its Tigers. It was established in 1974 as a Tiger reserve. However, a wide variety of flora and fauna can be found here. Gaur (a type of bull), Chital, Sambhar, Mouse-Deer, wild dogs, four- horned antelope, wild boar, sloth bear, Malabar squirrel, porcupines, Indian rock python, jackals, can also be found here.

Located on the Mysore- Ooty Highway, Bandipur National Park can be easily reached.

By Road - 80 km from Ooty, 80 km from from Mysore and 220 km from Banglore.
By Air - Banglore International Airport is the nearest airport, which is located at a distance of 215 km from Bandipur.
By Railways- Mysore Railway Station is the nearest railhead , located at a distance of 80 kms.

Best Season to Visit



October to May is the right time to visit Bandipur National Park. Throughout the year, the National Park has a warm and comfortable climate. Migratory birds are a common sight during peak winter season. Animal spotting is easy during summers. However, monsoon is erratic in Bandipur National Park.
