The study of Porbandar religion reveals that this coastal city of Gujarat is predominantly inhabited by the followers of Hinduism. Being a part of the secular democratic republic of India Porbandar is also a secular city. The state of Gujarat does not preach and propagate any state religion. People following other religions like Muslims and Christians also coexist in Porbandar since the city believes in the religion of humanity.
The Hindus follow the rites and rituals formulated by the religion and celebrate various festivals, which are dedicated to their deities. People in Porbandar are vegetarian and are mostly attached to the Vaishnava sect of Hinduism. This sect propagates the worship of Lord Vishnu in his Krishna avatar.
People across all religions in Porbandar are heavily influenced by the teachings of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. Gandhiji preached non-violence and asked man to have faith in God and in the truth of life. These spiritual ideologies are the basis on which the people of Porbandar live in complete harmony with each other. The population of Porbandar follows the path of humanity which lays down that the welfare of fellow human beings is the biggest religion on earth.
