Overview/HistoryThe Jaipur Literature Festival was held for the first time in the year 2006 and 18 writers participated in the festival. No one would have imagined at that time that the festival will become the most prestigious events in Asia to which the lovers of literature would look forward with keen interest. 2007 brought with it likes of Salman Rushdie and Kiran desai to the city of the Jaipur literature Festival. 2009 and 2010 had the who's who of literature from different parts of the world attending the event and the participation of the masses and lovers of literature was also massive. Last year as many as 226 writers held discussions on various topics pertaining significance to literature and much more than that.
CelebrationJaipur Literature festival is held over a period of five and there are time slots in which the discussions will be held in different places at the venue, Diggi Place. The list of writers and eminent personalities to be present at the event include names like Salman Rushdie, Kapil Sibal, Chetan Bhagat, Steven Pinker, Yatindra Mishra, Kiran Nagarkar, Mahendra Bhanawat, Suman Keshari, Vinod Mehta, Oprah Winfrey, Barkha Dutt, Peter Popham and Thant Myint, Navdeep Suri, Madan Gopal Singh, Mohammed Hanif, Joseph Lelyveld, Sugata Bose, Peter Popham, David Remnick, Simon Sebag Montifiore, Tahmima Anam, Amish Tripathi, Ashwin Sanghi Amrita Tripathi and many more. The other events to be held at the festival include debates, readings and workshops for children.
