Popularly known as the Mohali Stadium, the Punjab Cricket Stadium is located in Mohali and it is well-known stadium in the country. The stadium is located outside of the Chandigarh City. This is the youngest test cricket stadium in the country. Various international and first class cricket matches are played on this ground.



Home to the regional Punjab team, this stadium is also home to the Kings XI Punjab, one of the IPL teams in India. It is the second international cricket stadium in the state. The international stadium was built in the year of 1993. In the year of 1993, Hero Cup match between India and South Africa was played and it was the first International One Day cricket played on this ground. The first International test match was in 1994 between India and West Indies. It can accommodate nearly 30000 people during a match.

One of the specialties of this stadium is its lights. The lights are quite unconventional and uncommon than other international cricket grounds. The pillars of the floodlights are very low compared to other stadiums. Actually, the light posts are strategically placed to avoid any collision with the aircrafts since Mohali airport is located nearby. Punjab Cricket Stadium Mohali is one of the larger stadiums in India.

The stadium took three years to complete and nearly 25 crore Indian rupees were spent on the constructions of the stadium. The stadium was built for test cricket but after 1993, it started conducting one day internationals. The pitch of Punjab Cricket Stadium Mohali is suitable for pace bowlers. Presently, Daljit Singh is the curator of Punjab Cricket Stadium in Mohali along with the consultation of Ar. Sufyan Ahmad.

The highest test score of this stadium 319 was hot by Virender Sehwag.The 1997 in the Independence Cup, Saeed Anwar scored a 194 against India. This history of this stadium was much gloried by its wonderful audience. In 1999, when Pakistan team performed brilliantly well, the audience gave a standing ovation to the team. So far, England had scored highest at this stadium, a declared 652 runs against India. Rahul Dravid hit his 10000th Test at this stadium.

World Cup history of M A Chidambaram Stadium



This stadium has hosted a couple of matches in 1987 and 1996 Cricket World Cup. In 1987, two matches took place on this stadium: India Vs Australia and Australia Vs Zimbabwe. In 1999, one match between Australia and New Zealand was organized at this venue.
