Sardar Patel Museum



The Sardar Patel Museum was established in the city of Surat in the year 1890 and has since then maintained the premier position among the Surat tourist attractions. The museum is a multi purpose museum that remains open on all days of the week barring Mondays. The museum also remains closed on the gazetted holidays declared by the Surat municipal corporation.

The visiting hours of the museum on Sundays and Tuesdays are from 2.45 P.M in the afternoon to 5.45 P.M in the evening. On the other days of the week, the museum remains open for the visitors from 11.45 A.M in the morning to 2 P.M in the afternoon and from 2.45 P.M in the afternoon to 5.45 P.M in the evening.

The Sardar Patel Museum in Surat is a repository that preserves antiques carved out of wood, stone, ivory and metal. A section of the museum displays the oil paintings. Sculptured work done on sandalwood is also displayed in the museum. Designs and crafts done on porcelain and textile are placed in another section of the museum. Of the other display objects placed in the museum are the miniatures and terracotta handicrafts. The Sardar Patel Museum of Surat is also a storehouse of literature and has preserved ancient manuscripts of the region. The various development projects of the city of Surat are modeled and displayed in the museum.

Built almost a century ago, the old Sardar Patel Museum is a repository rich in the display of art and craft.
