Among the several Kerala thermal power plants, Kayamkulam Thermal Power Plant is the most prestigious. It was opened on 17th January, 1999 by the then Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal BEhari Vajpayee. This initiative by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has proved extremely beneficial and valuable to the power sector in India. The Kayamkulam Combined Cycle Project by NTPC is also precious to Kerala, the state which often witnesses power shortages.
