Sas Bahu Temples

The Sas Bahu Temples also known as the Sas Bhau ka Mandir are a pair of temples that are sited in the ancient city of Gwalior. The twin temples are consecrated to Lord Vishnu or Sahastrabahu. However, over the years the name became distorted and the temple came to be known as the Sas-Bahu Temple.

The venerable shrine that stands proud and stately in the city was constructed by Raja Mahipala. The Sanskrit inscription at the temple's premises ascribes the temple's origin to date as far back as 1093 AD. The entryway also bears a splendid image of the Holy trinity namely the Lords Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara (Lord Shiva).

The temple's wondrous architecture enraptures tourists. The massive chunks of sandstone precariously balanced over one another in a slanting position indeed present a breathtaking sight. The stunning beauty, the overwhelming aura of sanctity and the awe inspiring and highly impressive structure are a hit with the tourists on a tour to Gwalior.
