Mathura to Nandgaon

Mathura to Nandgaon is a very interesting weekend trip from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Nandgaon is situated at a distance of 32 Kilometers from Mathura. It is very convenient to reach the destination as one can hire a cab or service bus.

Nandgaon is similar to the typical of villages of Braj. The village is is connected to the mythological legends of Lord Krishna. He spent his childhood at Nandgaon, which was the home of Nanda, his foster-father. To save Lord Krishna from the hands of the tyrannical ruler Kansa, Krishna's father Vasudeva exchanged him with the daughter of Nanda and left the baby at the house of Nanda. Nanda and his wife Yashoda thought that have been gifted with a baby boy and started raising him as their own son.

Nandgaon is located in the lap of a hill. There are a number of temples in the village. The temple dedicated to Nanda Rai is one of the best temples in the region. Raja Roop Singh took significant effort for the construction of this old temple during the mid 12'th century. There are other temples in Nandgaon that are built in honor of deities such as Narsingha, Nritya Gopal and Yashoda Nandan. The Pan Sarovar is another attraction of the village. Pan Sarovar is actually a tank which has ghats along its sides. As per the legend, Lord Krishna used to visit these ghats with his cow. During the ancient period this lake was the main source of water for the people of Nandgaon.
