The primary attraction of Alwar comprise of the monumental forts and palaces that lie atop the hill in the city. Bala Qila is the fort of the city that was constructed by the Nikumbha Rajputs. The fort has ramparts that soar to great heights and lengths. The 446 musketry openings of the fort are representative of the strong in-built security system.

The city palace of Alwar was constructed in the 18th century by Raja Bakhtayar Singh. The palace now houses the government office of the district collectorate. The Company Garden or the Purjan Vihar was created in 1868 by Maharaja Shiv Dan Singh. The luxurious garden houses the Simla or the summer house that was constructed by Maharaja Mangal Singh.

The Vijay Mandir Palace is situated at a distance of 10 kilometers from the center of the city. The palace houses the temple dedicated to the worship of Lord Ram that is thronged by the devotees during Ramnavami.
