Karnataka lies in the south of India and is the largest state in the south. The state came into existence in 1956 and covers an area of 191,976 sq km. The state was earlier known as Mysore. Today the state comprises of 29 districts and is known as the "silicon valley of India".

Roads of Karnataka

Karnataka is a well developed state of India and the capital city is Bangalore. The state boasts of a good and large network of roads that are interstate as well as highways. The state government has taken good care of maintaining and building a good infrastructure and highly maintained roadways that can be seen throughout the state. The state has a total of 1, 22,489 km of road area. The national highways run for around 2357 kms and the state highways extend as much as 28,311 km. The internal roads have roadways of 2090 km, which are well connected to different parts of the state.

Karnataka is one of the most progressive and an important industrial zone of India and this is so due to the great road network found in the state. Economy of the state has shown tremendous progress due to the improvement of roads that can be found even in the remotest part of the state. All the districts are well connected to provide efficiency and quick access to any place. The roads contribute a lot towards the progress of the state. Sufficient modes of transport like the taxis, buses and auto rickshaws, cycles, scooters can be seen in plenty on the roads due to the progressive demands of the state.

Karnataka comprises of major cities like Bangaluru, Mysore, Bijapur, Belgaum, Mangalore etc, which play a significant role in the economy of the state. The government of Karnataka has strategic plans to extend its network of roads to all the districts and towns of the state. Various bridges, large roads and many national highways along with fly over have been efficient in developing the industrial sector of the state.
