Rashtriya Indian Military College



The Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) of Dehradun was established in 1922. It provides public school education to young boys in the age group of 11 and half years to 18 years specially selected through a national level competitive examination.

Boys are next sent to the NDA/NAVAC. Hence the emphasis is on both education and personality development. However, students attain sufficient academic proficiency after 5 years here, to get admission to any professional or other colleges in the country if desired.

The Rashtriya Indian Military College at Dehradun has a sprawling campus. 25 cadets are admitted every 6 months to Class-VIII only. Candidates sit for an all- India entrance examination held twice a year (January and July) comprising English, Mathematics and General Knowledge. Those successful are summoned for a viva-voce. Those who qualify, are sent for medical examinations. Those cleared are invited to join.

Cadets reside in dormitories, with a mess and dining hall for meals. There are spacious classrooms and well equipped laboratories. Besides, play-fields, courts and a swimming pool exist for co-curricular activities.

The library of the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) of Dehradun has 12,400 books. It subscribes to various Indian and foreign magazines and journals besides daily newspapers.


An extension counter of SBI is located within the campus of Rashtriya Indian Military College .

A 15 bedded college hospital has a resident doctor, a matron and a compounder. Cases needing specialist medical care, are referred to the Military Hospital, Dehradun.
