Perambalur district is an inland district spread over 3,691 Sq. km. without any coastal line. According to 2001 Census, the total population is 11,89,170 which consist of 5,92,904 males and 5,96,266 females. It is geographically located between 10� 54� and 11.30� of Northern latitude and 78� 40� and 79� 30� of the Eastern longitude.

The Perambalur district is moderately rich in minerals like celeste, lime stone, shale, sand stone, canker and phosphate. The huge deposit of limestone helps in running five cement factories in the district.

The farmers of the district of Perambalur grow paddy, groundnut, sugarcane and millets. Cashew is the major plantation crop.
