Tiruvarur district was formed on 1st January 1997. It is located between 10 °20' and 11 °07' Latitude (N-S) and between 79 °15' And 79 ° 45' Longitude (E-W). It covers the geographical area of 2097.09 Sq. km and has the total population of 11,69,474 including 5,80,784 males and 5,88,690 females.
