Koraput District Map

Koraput holds a total area of 8,807 sq km.According to 2001 census, with a total population of 11,77,954, the district has a literacy rate of 36.20%.

Koraput is dependent on agricultural activities. The district has total cultivable land of 3,01,000 hectares.With a 157 km long national highway the district is well connected to all the other districts of Orissa.

Gupteswar, Neelabadi, Nandapur, Sunabeda, Duduma water fall, Savra shrikhetra, Ankadeli forms the major interests of Koraput.

Koraput which is a district of Orissa, was formed in the year 1936 on the 1st of April. Covering a total geographical area of 8,379.30 Square Kilometers, the district of Koraput has a total population of approximately 11,77,954 people. At an elevation of 3000 feet from the minimum Sea level, the topography of Koraput is somewhat table like with an undulating landscape which is dotted with hundred of hills.

There are four distinct seasons in the climate of Koraput, the winter season, the summer season, the monsoon season and the post monsoon season. The area receives a great amount of rainfall due to the depression from the Bay of Bengal and Koraput receives an annual average rainfall of 1,778 millimeters.

Koraput is well connected by road, rail and air. The nearest Air terminal in Koraput is the Airport in Visakhapatnam but Koraput has its own rail head which has regular trains connecting it with Kolkata, Chennai, Bhubaneshwar, Delhi etc. The district of Koraput is located on the National Highway number 43 which makes it easily accessible by road.
