Erode district is located on the northern part of Tamil Nadu covering an area of 8,162 Sq. km. The district is situated at between 10º 36” and 1º 58” of the North Latitude and between 76º 49” and 77º 58” of the East Longitude. The total population of the district is 25,74,067 comprising of 13,06,039 males and 12,68,028 females

Alongwith Rice, other crops like millets, cereals, pulses, sugarcane, groundnut and cotton are grown in the district of Erode. The Erode district is rich in minerals like quartz, feldspar, black granite, colour granite, rough stone and sand. The district is an important business centre for turmeric. It is also famous for marketing of handloom, powerloom and readymade garments such as cotton sarees, bedsheets, towels, carpets, lungies, and dhotis.
