The present term of the legislative assembly in Punjab is due for an end in the month of March. Thus, the general elections are scheduled to be held in the state in the month of January. NDA (National Democratic Alliance) is the party to dominate the general elections in the state of Punjab.

Shiromani Akali Dal led by Prakash Singh Badal is the party contributing majority of votes to the coalition of NDA which also include BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party). Congress party had to face defeat on several occasions in the state as NDA has the maximum support of the locals in the state of Punjab. Adequate measures have been taken to ensure that elections are held smoothly.
