East Delhi is situated on the eastern banks of the river Yamuna that divides Delhi into two parts. This part of Delhi is therefore also popular as the trans-Yamuna area. Some of the most important commercial and administrative centres are located in East Delhi.

The four important regions of East Delhi are Mayur Vihar, Preet Vihar, Shahdara and Patparganj. Preet Vihar, with its designer boutiques and shops has proved to be the centre for fashion freaks. Likewise, this particular area is also known for its popular hangouts like McDonalds, Domino's Pizza, Nirula's, Sagar Ratna, Saffron Court and Bikanerwala. Preet Vihar in East Delhi is also known for its educational and coaching centres like Ftech, Career Launcher, NIIT and Aptech.

Other important areas of East Delhi are - Laxmi Nagar, Shakarpur and Anand Vihar. There are numerous hotels that provide fabulous room service to make your stay in the state a memorable affair. Metro connectivity of Mayur Vihar and adjoining areas has also improved with the introduction of the Pink Line, with shopping hubs like Lajpat Nagar just a few minutes away. Blue Line is already operational for a long time, and can be used to commute within East Delhi, and between East Delhi, Central Delhi and West Delhi upto areas such as Janakpuri and Dwarka. Some of the major stations on Blue Line are are Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar, Nirman Vihar, Akshardham, and Anand Vihar, to name a few.
