Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (Awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1954)

 

Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was a renowned philosopher. He was the Vice President of India from 1952 to 1962. In 1962 he was appointed as the President of India. His birthday, which falls on September 5, is celebrated as Teacher’s Day in India. Radhakrishnan was one of the most distinguished scholars of comparative religion and philosophy. He had served as a professor of Philosophy at the University of Mysore, the King George V Chair of Mental and Moral Science at the University of Calcutta, and Spalding Professor of Eastern Religion and Ethics at the University of Oxford. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was influential in shaping the understanding of Hinduism.

  1. It is astonishing that the list of Bharat Ratna Awards does not include the name of Mohd. Rafi whose voice is supposed to be God’s own voice. Very sad.
