Sikh and Hindu Shrines in Amritsar


Like in the other parts of India, the city of Amritsar also cherishes a cosmopolitan society where people belonging to different religions and languages co-exist harmoniously. Though the major religion in the Amritsar City is Sikhism, the city has a lot of Hindu people. For obvious reasons, there a many Sikh and Hindu Shrines in Amritsar.

The most famous of all the Sikh religious shrines in the city of Amritsar is the Golden Temple. People also know it by the name of Harminder Sahib. It is considered so sacred that Sikhs from all around the world come to visit the Golden Temple at least once in their whole life. With the numerous Sikh shrines all over the city, Amritsar is infact called the Mecca of Sikhs.

The Akal Takht is another religious shrine of the Sikhs and is regarded as the most holy seat of the Sikhs. It is where the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee is seated. It is the spiritual governing body of the Sikhs. The Akal Takht is a five-storied building and tourists are eager to visit it.

The Tarn Taran Gurudwara is also situated in the sacred city of Amritsar. It also has a tank beside it and is considered a very holy place among all the Sikhs.

The famous city of Amritsar is also a sacred place for the Hindus. The place has a good number of Hindu temples that attract the Hindu pilgrims from all over the country.

The Mata Mandir Temple is a very famous Hindu pious shrine in the city of Amristar in Punjab. It has resemblance to the Vaishno Devi Temple in Jammu.

The Ram Tirath Temple is another Hindu temple that is situated in Amritsar. It is the blessed place where the twin sons were born to Lord Rama and Sita Devi.
