Kalika Mata Temple

The Kalika Mata Temple is one of the most intriguing places to see in Rajasthan. Previously dedicated to Lord Surya, the Kalika Mata Temple of Chittaurgarh was transformed into a temple of Goddess Kali.

This 8th century temple is an excellent architectural example of the Pratihara Period. The Kalika Mata Temple in Chittorgarh pleases not only the religiously inclined people but also creates interest among the art lovers and general tourists.

Constructed on a raised platform, the Kalika Mata Temple has wonderfully sculptured exteriors. The pillars, mandap, entrances and the ceiling all bear great work of intricate carvings. However, much of its previous glory was lost when Allaudin Khilji attacked Chittorgarh.

The temple attracts a large number of visitors during the annual fair held near the temple complex. People from far and wide visit the temple to pay homage to Goddess Kali.
