D. Pharma


This is the abbreviation of Diploma in Pharmacy. This is an academic course, which is pursued by the students belonging to the discipline of science. The program teaches the basics of pharmaceutical science. It does not have any option that one can choose to specialize in, though. The successful completion of such a diploma course helps an aspirant to be a registered chemist or pharmacist.

An ambitious candidate can even set up a pharmacy on his or her own. However, that necessitates registering their name with the concerned authority. How example, the inhabitants of this country needs to register their names with the P. C. I. or Pharmacy Council of India fir setting up their own pharmacy. The registration of the name with such organizations can be done post successful completion of the course though. Many people choose to become a medical representative post pursuing a Diploma in Pharmacy as well.

In the Republic of India, the sector of pharmacy, which even includes the practice as well as industrial sectors, is undergoing a continuous and rapid change. Presently, the nation is in huge need of technologically and clinically trained professionals, who have got a sound knowledge about the industry of pharmacy. The total duration of this course is, normally, of 2 years and is studied at the under graduate level of education.

The minimum eligibility criteria kept by the different colleges offering this diploma program in India is that the candidate who intends to join the course needs to have successfully completed the higher secondary or 10 + 2 level of study with the subjects of biology or mathematics, chemistry and physics. The various D. Pharma institutions in India are continuously strengthening and upgrading the curriculum of this pharmacy course. Most of these institutes even provide a practical training of 3 months' duration, which assist one id gaining hands on experience of the subject.

Usually, the procedure of admission to a D. Pharma course does not include an entrance examination. However, some of the Indian D. Pharma colleges or institutions include an admission test before enrolling students for this course. Qualifying in those entrance examination conducted by them are a must for the candidate, who aspires to be a part of those institutes.
